In Poland, 1 June is children’s day, when children receive small presents from their families.
The hospices we support work with children recently orphaned by the death of a close relative as a result of a terminal illness. Many now live with foster families, or with more distant family, often in financially difficult circumstances. We asked each child what present he or she dreams of for children’s day. Most of the girls would like a new t-shirt or dress, the boys have asked for sports kit and many of the younger children dream of Lego or crayons. |
Marta is a 17 year old girl who, together with her younger brother, is being brought up by her grandmother. Marta loves sport and fashion. Asked about a present she always mentions clothes as her family’s situation doesn’t allow her granny to buy fashionable clothes. Marta dreams of new clothes – a shirt, jumper, or even a dress.
We hope that the presents delivered on 1 June will make hundreds of young people smile. Presents cost around £20 each, and each parcel includes a personal message.
