Jakub was born with a serious heart defect and had to undergo numerous operations and treatment for infections. He had his first open heart surgery aged one month, and doctors predicted that he would not survive.
After spending his first 250 days in hospital, Jakub was able to go home under the care of the Otwock hospice. The hospice nurses and doctors, as well as equipment lent by the hospice, are vital to Jakub’s ongoing care as he still uses a catheter and a gastric tube. Under the watchful care of the hospice staff, volunteers and his family, Jakub is slowly growing stronger. He will soon be able to undergo his next set of operations to allow him to lead a healthy and active life in the future.
Equipment such as the infusion pump donated to Otwock hospice by the Alina Foundation is vital to keep babies like Jakub alive until their bodies are strong enough to undergo the life-saving operations.
During its useful life this infusion pump will save many young lives.
