Vilnius, Lithuania
Other than the Father Michała Sopoćki hospice in Vilnius, in Lithuania there is no other place where people who are dying - children and adults - can receive professional help from appropriately trained staff and have a place to prepare for the next life according to Christian values and human dignity.
The hospice cares for people touched by cancer and other terminal illnesses. The team supports each patient and their family without regard to nationality, religion, faith, financial or political status. The hospice supports life and its sense of value. It functions as a residential and home care unit. Currently the residential unit has 12 beds, with 15 people cared for in their own homes. The number of patients changes. The hospice building includes rooms for 14 patients, a surgery, kitchen, staff room and a room for families of the dying, who also wish to watch over their loved ones at the moment of their death. To date, the Alina Foundation and Cycle Poland have donated:
